This article, based on a comparison of poetic fragments related to the Khorezmian, Turkmen, Turkish, and Azerbaijani versions of the “Gorogly” epic, identifies their typological features and provides a series of theoretical insights into the genesis of this cycle of dastans, as well as the stages of the epic's formation across a vast territory.
